NBTAP got some great feedback from a mother of one of our Student Apprentices this weekend and we wanted to share our response to it here in case anyone else was looking for more information on pursuing a skilled trade career after high school:
"NBTAP advises all Student Apprentices to apply to NBCC or CCNB as early as April 1 of their Grade 11 year, as seats are awarded on a “first come, first served” basis. In many popular NBCC programs, demand for seats exceeds supply - even for students that have worked in the trade with a NBTAP employer. We continue to work with NBCC to increase timely access for NBTAP Student Apprentices.
As you know, NBCC is not a Student Apprentice's only choice on the pathway to a skilled trade career. When NBTAP Student Apprentices graduate from high school, they can proceed directly to work with a skilled trade employer. That employer can register them as an apprentice and the student can work toward their skilled trade certification and Diploma of Apprenticeship.
We outline different paths to a skilled trade career in our Plan Your Bright Future with NBTAP document. Check it out here: https://www.nbtap.ca/pdf/bright-future-en.pdf
Thank you for being an advocate of NBTAP!"
